OCC Students Win 11 Writing Awards

Journalism students at Oklahoma Christian College won 11 writing awards recently at the Oklahoma Collegiate Press Association’s spring conference.

First-place winners were Murray Evans and Bobby Ross.

Evans, a senior from Lancaster, Calif., won in the sports feature, investigative reporting and sports news writing categories.

Ross, a junior from Keller, Texas, won in news writing and feature writing.

Second-place winners were Ross and junior Steve Lackmeyer of Oklahoma City in investigative reporting, and freshman Tami Dillard of Newalla in news writing.

Third-place winners were junior Todd Johnson of Dallas in column writing, Dillard in sports feature and junior Jana Janz of Piedmont in news writing.

Additionally, the 1989-90 staff has been named for The Talon, the college’s student newspaper.

Philip Patterson will serve as faculty adviser. Ross has been named editor-in-chief.

Ross also will serve as vice president of the Oklahoma Collegiate Press Association.

Section editors returning to The Talon are James VanMeter, photography; Lackmeyer, news; Sherry Pressnell, features; and Dillard, sports.
